Packwood House and Baddesley Clinton
A Coach Visit on Wednesday 28th June
This event is now closed
Packwood House is a timber-framed Tudor manor house with a famous Yew Garden containing over 100 trees which was laid out in the mid-17th century. We hope to be given a guided tour of the garden which will take just under an hour.
After the tour, we will have time for lunch before we travel on to Baddesley Clinton
Outside of the guided tour of the garden at Packwood, you are free to explore the grounds and house at both properties. Entrance to both houses is by timed tickets which start at 11 am. Both properties have some areas of gravel pathways and rough terrain.
Owned by the National Trust since 1941, Packwood House was constructed for John Fetherston between 1556 and 1560. The last member of the Fetherston family died in 1876 and in1904 the house was purchased by a Birmingham industrialist, Alfred Ash. It was inherited by Graham Baron Ash in 1925, who purchased an extensive collection of 16th- and 17th-century furniture, some obtained from nearby Baddesley Clinton.
Baddesley Clinton was the home of the Ferrers family for 500 years. The medieval moated manor was a sanctuary for the Ferrers family, but also for persecuted Catholics who were hidden from prying eyes in its secret priest holes during the 1590s. The house has remained essentially unchanged since the 1630s.
The lovely medieval church of St Michael is located just 250 yards from the manor.
